Child's Story
Agness Likonge aged 10 years old was born on the 12th of June, 2012. She lives in Wasala Community under the care of her mother who is the primary caregiver since her birth and also the brother. Agness’ father abandoned her and the family all by reason of not being able to take care of the family and left the mother to be the sole provider of the children. Agness’ father since she was born has never been committed to the well being of the children.
Her life story is heart touching, accompanied by a series of challenges that seem to have shuttered her dream to become a nurse. Being an ambitious girl, Agness' desire is to become a nurse and help people having health problems. This has been limited by the guardian's financial hardships, hence not meeting all her needs which includes clothing, food and education as the mother works as a casual worker within the local farms for a daily pay of $ 1.50. Dearest Agness lives in a two room rented makeshift house. When sick, treatment is just administered right at home by the caregiver. And the family can only afford a meal per day and sometimes go on an empty stomach.
Pretty Agness is passionate about cooking and netball is her favorite sport. God remains a focal point of Agness' hope and faith regardless of the unpleasant situations that Agness and her family are currently facing in life.
