Child's Story
Chenge Chalwe aged 16 years old, born on February 3rd, 2006 lives in Wasala Community with his maternal grandmother who is the primary caregiver and six relatives who are also supported by Chenge’s grandmother.
Chenge’s story remains to be an emotional path of life, the child was abandoned by his biological parents all by reason of him having sight impairment or disability. The child moved in with his maternal grandmother when he was 8 years of age. Chenge has never attended school in his life, this is because the grandmother is unable to provide the holistic support considering she’s also in a needy condition, but this has not darkened Chenge’s passion and vision of becoming an Accountant regardless of him not having attended any school in his early childhood. Chenge is ever passionate about attending church, his kind to his friends, coherent to advice and guidance from older people and his hobby is soccer.
In spite of him being in a needy physical and emotional state the child has a heart to occasionally help the grandmother with reasonable house chores (gathering fire wood and carrying water pots) and he normally asks for alms or micro donations from the people in the community to help support his grandmother and the other relatives. The day to day life of Chenge is not compared to that of an average child in Wasala, this may be seen through his family and him having one meal in a day, lack of proper clothing, experiencing demeaning or discriminatory remarks from people in the community and also living in a makeshift building made out of clay of which becomes a perptual struggle in rainy season as water tends to flood their house.
In all these negative things that have surrounded Chenge’s life, he remains to be a sweet and precious child in the sight of God and we believe that God has good plans for Him. Thus, we can choose today to join hands of faith in praying and supporting God’s precious soul “Chenge Chalwe.” We also believe that we can be the hands of love, joy, care and help by expressing the real image of God through us helping such a lovely soul to realize and live out his God Innate potentials and vision of life.
